Hilton Head is trying to ease the seasonally heavy traffic by starting a trolley service that's scheduled to start running July 16th. The trolley will be called "The Breeze" and will be free in July and then $1 per person going forward. I put the initial route map below. Follow the link to the Island Packet's website for more details.

I love the idea of a trolley. This is a great plan If it means fewer cars on the road in the summer months. Traffic is bad and seems to get worse with each passing year. Even so, It won't help reduce the crowds at all the shops and restaurants. Our dear friends and next door neighbors started going to Kiawah island a few years ago to avoid the crowds on Hilton Head. We are trying to convince them to come on another trip with us but they are very happy there. I can't deny that Hilton Head is very crowded in the summer, but I still love it. The trolley shows that the city planners are looking for ways to ease the crowding. That's a step in the right direction.
