Hello fellow Hilton Head Lifers! I've been kicking around buying a vacation villa in Palmetto Dunes, and am looking for input. I've narrowed it down to Inverness, St. Andrews and Turnberry. St. Andrews would be a 2/2 flat or 2/2 loft, Inverness a 2/2 flat, and Turnberry a 2/2 with the loft. All have their plusses and minuses...and rent basically for the same fee.

Rob,

I've never stayed in those particular Villas, but we always stay in Palmetto Dunes. I looked Inverness up and really like those units. We've stayed in Huntington and Hickory Cove villas and don't think you can go wrong.

We have been thinking about buying a rental as well. The prices seem reasonable, but I need more info on the HOA / Condo fees since I think they are pretty high in the plantations. Do you know what the fees are for the units you're looking into?

They're all coming in at around $525 to $550 a month for the Regime fee, PLUS an additional $1575 a year for Palmetto Dunes. Its kinda pricey - but for all that PD has to offer, I think its worth it. I'd love to get something closer to the ocean - but the current prices are out of my league.

Rob,

That's not too bad and I agree that Palmetto Dunes offers amenities like few other communities. Please let me know if you decide to move forward. I would like to ask you a few questions. My wife and I have talked extensively about retiring to Hilton Head once our kids are all off to college. We have friends who live there now and they love the lifestyle.

Cheers,
Will

For retirement - I bought a villa at Summer House on Marshland road last year. Great location and amenities, and relatively low price for being on HHI. I have a long term renter in there until I decide to make the move. (hopefully soon)
