Nice if you like 95 and major humidity. Today started out with a big rumble of thunder at 6:30 then got very dark and poured. Then by 8:24 tee time it all cleared up and was sunny all day. Our daughter from Phoenix was here for a week with their family so we are in recovery mode. Grand kids are fun but they have a lot of energy. Got more coming July 4th. That's when it gets real crowded...the parkway and 278 will be backed up past the outlet malls on Saturday afternoon. The smart thing to do is have supper in Bluffton and then cross the bridge about 7.
Saw about 50 wood storks over at Oldfield out in Okatie yesterday.

My goodness is it hot today! Summer has arrived and I am not ready for this sticky heat yet.Our air conditioner is getting a workout this week. I sure would love to be swimming in the ocean on Hilton Head right this instant and then take a nap under the beach umbrella. I don't have much longer to wait!!

Dave,

I can feel the humidity from here. That is a great picture, though.

Cheers,

Very hot and humid lately but it's to be expected in July in SC. We need some rain.

Dave,

My wife, our three children and Jill's parents will be down for a week starting tomorrow. We're staying in Palmetto Dunes. I hope the weather forecast stays as good as it is right now. Maybe we can get together for a drink one afternoon. It's always fun to meet people from the forum in person.

Cheers,
Will

Will, sorry I did not get back to you. We have been bombarded with company for about three weeks now. Barely had time to change the sheets between visitors. I saw your post and then got distracted and never remembered to respond. Haven't looked at this site in a while but from the looks of your beautiful pictures, it looks like you had a good time. You may have timed it right, we've been having a lot of rain recently (and we need it) but mostly late day thunder storms. Again I apologize for not responding.

Dave,

We did have a great trip and the weather was perfect. Friday was the only day it rained and even that wasn't too bad. We packed a lot into the week, but it never seems like enough time. I'm contemplating another trip in late September, but haven't made any reservations yet. The island should be a little less crowded then.

Cheers,
Will

Glad you had a good trip. It has been very hot and humid as I'm sure you experienced. Maybe by Sept or Oct it'll cool off a bit. I just vacuumed out my car and I'm soaking wet. Hard to do anything outdoors without getting soaked.

It really was gorgeous. We were on our way home from Bluffton and I kept seeing how cool it looked in the rear view mirror. So we stopped at the dock at the rowing center on Squire Pope Rd and enjoyed it for 15 minutes. The people at all the restaurants along there got a nice show that evening. Here's a sky pic from several days ago when I was walking the dog. Hurried home but it never even rained across the street at my house.

Vacation season is about over. Backups on the bridge on Saturday evening are less and less.

That is one of the craziest looking cloud formations I've seen. Was that the start of a water spout? That's an amazing photo, Dave.

Dave,

What's the word on the island about Hurricane Dorian? Do you have any plans to leave?

Pretty nice day here today but lots of rain ahead. There's a king tide coming and heavy rain add up to no good. Fortunately we live on a high point on the island (it's all relative). We have brought in all the outdoor stuff and are ready to head out in the AM. We'll stay with friends in Atlanta to ride it out. Mandatory evacuation started today at 12 noon and they have lane reversals on 278. Most are leaving but there are always some that stay.

My wife and I went to dinner last night at the Boathouse with her cousin's family who are in town. Afterward we walked out the dock and four manatees were swimming around at the end of it. Someone had left a water hose hanging over the edge and running and one of the manatees was floating on his back drinking from the hose. Five minutes later, the manager from the restaurant came out and turned it off. Apparently someone posted a pic on Facebook and DNR saw it and called the restaurant. There is a $10,000 fine for feeding fresh water to manatees in SC. The manatees love it but it causes them to hang around marinas and then get run over by boats. One of these had several scrapes across his/her back from boat propellers. Learned something new.
