Golf Course Recommendations?

Any golf course recommendations out there? Your favorite courses, ones to avoid, courses that are a good deal, courses worth the extra $$, courses not worth the extra $$... smiley

Thanks in advance...we have a trip coming up and my dad who loves to golf will be with us.

Check out this previous thread:

My favorite recently is the Robert Trent Jones course in Palmetto Dunes. On island, not terribly expensive, and the back nine to me is breathtaking - wide open vistas filled with the 11 mile lagoon, beautiful houses, and an ocean hole to top it all off:

While my dear wife treated me to Harbour Town last July 4th (and my son), I enjoyed it more for that than the actual course - I don't think I'll be back any time soon. It's quite frankly overrated based on the price you pay. (Although golfing with forecaddies was different and fun.) By the way, I have it as my goal to play two private courses based on what I've heard - Long Cove and Colleton River.

Hello everyone, we are making a trip to hilton head, but only for a thurs-sunday stay. I have been the last 2 years and have played RTJ and Hills both at palmetto dunes.
This year my brother and his wife are coming, and due to time and money contraints, we are only playing 1 round, and have narrowed the courses down to the following:
Eagles Pointe (DLIII)
Crescent (Arnold Palmer)
Island West (Zoeller)

now, the last of those 3, Island West, I have read warnings, and I have also read good things. It is the cheapest, but if it is not in good shape, I dont want to play. I have raved to my brother about the courses here and would hate to drop 45 bucks on a course no better than our course at home.

So, of those 3, does anyone have a suggestion on their favorite? THANKS A TON!!!

Paul

Of those three, I have only played Island West. That was about 4 years ago and I was not impressed.

Are you looking to play morning or afternoon? The afternoon rates are lower at most courses. If you were to play off-island, my suggestion would be Hilton Head National - it's $59 in the afternoon and well worth it.

Thanks again for all the helpful advice, especially the link that IsleBeBack posted.

A few comments from my husband regarding the courses he played last week (Robert Cupp, Oyster Reef, and Golden Bear):

Golden Bear - $65 -probably the nicest (grounds) and they had GPS
Robert Cupp - $70 -more secluded (holes separated from each other more)
Oyster Reef - $70 - hubby doesn't remember anything specific about this one - he played it the first day and isn't as caught up in "details" as I am! smiley

All of them are very challenging, with lots of trees, and are nicer than local/public courses back home. Accurate tee shots are necessary. The sandtraps at all of them were deep and unforgiving.

Favorite was the Golden Bear. Would go back to all three of them.

All prices listed above were for reservations made with Last Minute Tee Times the night before (www.lmteetimes.com). The regular course rates were almost double the amount they paid. They were able to get tee times within 15-20 minutes of when they wanted, so this worked out great.

Thanks again!
