We'll be heading to HHI in about a month for the sixth time. While I have the main roads marked in my mental map, I would love to explore the island a bit more this time. Can you tell me what plantations or areas that we can or cannot freely drive into? We own a timeshare at Waterside which is right next to Shipyard. I know we cannot get in without a gate pass. If we wanted to eat at the Sonesta would they let us enter? And I know Sea Pines you need to pay the $6 fee to enter. Some examples of areas I am wondering about are Palmetto Dunes, Port Royal, Spanish Wells, HHI Plantation, Wexford, Long Cove, Indigo Run, Folly Field...We're not trying to break any rules, just do a bit more exploring smiley

Lyndy,

Hello and welcome. I know you can get guest passes for Palmetto Dunes. I think a 1-2 day pass is free and there are nominal fees for 3 - 7 day passes. Depending on where you want to go in Palmetto Dunes, you may not need a pass at all. As for the other communities, it varies, but most allow some type of temporary guest access. Below is a link to another site that has a rundown on all the plantations and what's inside.

There are year-round Hilton Head locals, like Dave, who are a wealth of information about the island. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Cheers,
Will
