Dave,
Great picture! Aren't they all GREAT DAYS in the low country! I am really missing it, left on the 5th to return to Iowa. It only going to be 55 for a high here today. Can't wait till I can spend my winters on the island.

Take Care,

Dave

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Lowcountry! It's chilly here this week although on Monday it was nice and there were hearty souls in the ocean...kids. Hope y'all had a merry Christmas. Life is still great here although I hit wet pine needles with my bike on the way to the golf course and took a nasty spill. I broke my collar bone and my pelvis so I've been pretty gimpy for the past couple of weeks. The worst part is no golf for 6 weeks. I read of the ice and snow up north and 27 degrees in VA where I moved from and appreciate it all the more down here...even when the high is only going to be 53! Hope everyone has a great 2014!--Dave

Dave,

So sorry to hear about your bike accident. I hope you are on the mend and will be back to golf soon. I love your pictures and hope you continue to post them. As for the temperatures in Virginia, I am in Richmond and the high temperature for Tuesday is supposed to be 24 degrees! It has been a weird winter and I am ready for Spring.

Cheers,
Will

Thanks, Johnny and Will. I am healing up but it takes us geezers a little longer. My original 6 week healing time is up Jan 21st so I'll see if the orthopedic guy agrees when I have a follow up on the 16th. At least I picked a good time for it...been rainy and cold here a lot the last 3 weeks. The day I fell off the bike (Dec 10) I had on shorts and short sleeves! Don't feel bad, Will it's only supposed to be high 35-38 here on Tues...but NO snow! Thanks for the good wishes.

Hi Paul, It's finally warmed up to 23 now at noon...bright sunny but cold!
My wife and I have ridden through Habersham and it is a nice community. It is quite isolated without much else close by. There's a few small shops on their main street but it's about 20 minutes or so to Beaufort and probably about 45 minutes to Hilton Head (I think).
We rented our house out long term (one year lease) for several years and used Miller Long term Rentals here on the island. They have a website with their inventory sorted by neighborhoods, so you could get an idea of what you could get, for what kind of money. Some things to bear in mind (that you might not think of) might be: wind insurance, flood insurance, gated community fees, etc. You may be already aware of this kind of stuff. One thing that surprised me was Hilton Head Plantation would not allow our moving van to park on our street (even tho I've seen our renters moving out with a moving van in the street). Consequently it cost me an extra $800 for the moving company to rent a Ryder truck and shuttle the stuff from the big truck! Also had to go to the front gate and pay $20 so a delivery truck could deliver a new piece of furniture to our house! Still not real crazy about the gated deal...have to call in a pass every time a friend wants to come, etc. but there's upsides too...safety, how nicely the plantation is maintained, pool, tennis, landscape debris dump, etc. Bottom line is we are thoroughly loving our new life here and highly recommend it! But I DIDN'T sign up for this cold!--Dave

Thumbs up Thumbs up

Paul, I sent you a PM. The forum is not real clear on how to send or receive PMs but if you click on your name (on one of your posts) and go to your profile, the message should be there.--Dave

Paul,

Congratulations on your upcoming move to Hilton Head. I know that's an exciting prospect.

Dave is correct bout sending and reading your private messages(PMs). It's not at all obvious and I will correct that when I update the site this spring. If you have any trouble with it before then, just let me know.

Will

The Heritage is in town...suspended yesterday, just before three for heavy rain. Thursday was nice. This morning not raining but the parking was going to be at HH high school and who knows where else as all the fields where they park in Sea Pines are too muddy. So we didn't go today but have tickets for a very nice Marriott skybox on number 18. Got to see Tom Watson play his (probably) last competitive round here on Thursday and Friday. Hopefully they'll get it all in this weekend.--Dave

Nice picture Dave. When I was on the island this past October, I was just on the other side of the 18th tee when I saw 2 bald eagles flying overhead and eventually roosting on the tall trees way in the background of this picture. Keep you eyes open as we have seen them around Lawton Stables and the sea pines beach club also.

Hey Johnny, they are here in Hilton Head Plantation too! The other day, I was on #10 tee and heard what sounded like crow noises up in a tree. I looked up there and saw 2 big black birds perched next to each other on the same branch. At first I thought they were turkey vultures (which are all over the island too) but one swooped down out of the tree and I could see it was a pair of bald eagles!--Dave

Looking forward to our late June trip!

Haven't posted in a while. My wife decided we needed a puppy. That'll keep you busy! She got a mini labradoodle and named him Bosco. He's a cross between a lab and a small poodle and something else. Doesn't shed and wags his tail nonstop. He's closing in on 6 months and supposed to max out at 20 to 25 pounds. He's been to doggie day care a couple of times and now they have his picture on their wall as a known sex offender. He gets fixed this month.--Dave
