After hearing all the hype about the Salty Dog I for one was not impressed. The food was average and pricey. Nice location with great views.

Even though I have to agree with the other posters that said The Salty Dog is expensive, we still go there one day for lunch, the atmosphere is awesome and we enjoy looking at the boats and the water and of course, the shopping.

My daughter looked forward to going to the Salty Dog all summer! (She has the book and loves the story.) We went for lunch, so ate out on the deck. The service was good, and food was fine. My husband thinks that it is "overrated", but I think that he just hates to eat outside in the heat. You gotta try it once! Got my t-shirt (and one for my daughter of course).

I have been to all of the Salty Dog eateries. The main restaurant is great for families, especially those with young kids. Be sure to get there early if you want to eat inside the restaurant. Jake's Pizza is good. The ice cream is great. The outdoor grill is a great place for live music and people watching. It is the kitsch capital of Hilton Head, but not to be missed. If you are looking for a more upscale meal, try the Wreck of the Salty Dog.
No matter what, get a t-shirt. It's amazing how many people I run into that know the Salty Dog and it's story.

The Salty Dog is not exactly gourmet, and it has somewhat overly expensive prices,but it is a good place to go when you need to cool off. Sit at the outside bar and get a cool drink, people-watch, boat watch, and just enjoy yourself. And don't forget to buy a t-shirt!

The Salty Dog is a must see for any Hilton Head trip. The food is pricey for what it is, but the atmosphere and the setting makes it worth the expense. Very kid friendly and plenty of outdoor seating. Go have fun and pose for the webcam.

You almost HAVE to go to the Salty Dog once. If not for the food, just to get a T and say you've been there! Food is good. It is fun to stand on the orange feet to be on the Internet!
