Hudson's Seafood House on the Docks Information: Built as a seafood-processing factory in 1912, this restaurant still processes fish, clams, and oysters for local distribution, so you know that everything is fresh. If you're seated in the north dining room, you'll be eating in the original oyster factory. We strongly recommend the crab cakes, steamed shrimp, and the especially appealing blackened catch of the day. Local oysters (seasonal) are also a specialty, breaded and deep-fried. Before and after dinner, stroll on the docks past shrimp boats, and enjoy the view of the mainland and nearby Parris Island. Sunsets here are panoramic. Lunch is served in the Oyster Bar.

Wouldn't be Hilton Head without Hudson's 12/31/2007

My inlaws have lived in Hilton Head for nearly ten years, and we've been to visit them several times each year since. Every trip includes at least one meal at Hudson's. The kids are disappointed if we don't go. I've tried a number of different menu items, and have yet to find one I don't like. The outdoor oyster bar is cool, the clown in summer is a treat for the young ones, and the parking is... a challenge. Wouldn't be Hilton Head trip without Hudson's.

Not worth the hype 8/16/2007

Hudson's Seafood was probably the worst restaurant we ate at on our vacation. The prices are not worth it and the place is nothing to look at. I was expecting to see all types of boats coming in and we all were really disappointed. When I'm going to spend over a $100 on a meal for my family I expect it to be good. There are better places to go for dinner at HHI there at Hudson's.

True, it's not the fanciest restaurant on the island, but the food more than makes up for any lack of ambiance. The service is fast and friendly. It wouldn't be Hilton Head without Hudson's.

Shouldn't Be Missed 7/10/2006

We have been going to Hudson's on our annual vacation to HHI for many years, and we have always enjoyed it. Sure, it's not gourmet, but it is still quite good, and the added bonus of being able to walk out on the docks, look at shrimpers, watch the sunset, and listen to a (sometimes talented) Jimmy Buffett wannabe makes Hudson's a restaurant that should not be missed.

Maybe it was a bad day.... 7/9/2006

Three of us had dinner at Hudson's when on the Island last summer. The appetizer we ordered was a sampler, and it was good. The entrees were ok, my sister had shrimp and was terribly disappointed. Maybe if you are eating the oysters, which seemed to be their specialty, it is grand. We felt like it was similar to calabash style seafood houses we are familiar with far from the ocean.

Hudson's is one of the only places I have eaten that I often dream of, lusting after their "oysters on the half", "hush puppies", "clams casino", and any of their fresh catches! I am a native Californian and don't get the opportunity to visit very often, but whenever travel takes me to the east coast, my mouth starts to water and memories of Hudson's incomparable fare loom large to serve as justification to go out of my way! The service here is genuinely friendly, and the smiling staff makes you know that your patronage is appreciated. Anything on the menu is top notch, but ask about specials or staff favorites. You'll enjoy it, guaranteed!
